Yes. [To her great surprise. Maketh didn't have much faith in people when she first came to Hadriel, and remembers her earlier conversations with Chris on the matter with a bit of shame.
But now they have a real problem, and no easy way to solve it.
Maketh exhales slowly.] That's true. We're lucky the gods didn't decide to retaliate this time.
[Though it's too early to say they won't do something later on, either. And who knows if Sharon and the others will try something like this again? Or someone else who has powers or just a crazy idea? Not to mention the whole issue with some people apparently being totally fine with just killing people here if they don't agree with their actions.
But okay. One thing at a time; he came here for a reason--or a few reasons, but one specifically that he mentioned--and he should probably actually get to that.]
About uh... The thing. Cashmere and Sam are in and willing to meet up with all of us at some point to figure out who's doing what. We should probably wait until after the next god's resurrect though.
[It's really not. Maketh shakes her head and returns to her coffee. This, at least, she can control.] Good. That should be enough. They're suspicious of us now, but if we're careful we could still learn something of importance.
[He nods, seemingly remembering his own coffee finally and taking a sip of it. Sugar and caffeine make even the worst of things slightly better.]
Yeah. Sam says he knows people who also might want to help, but I asked him to hold off for now until we're sure the whole thing's safe enough with the group we have.
[And they probably need to wait even longer than the god resurrection, actually; Maketh is right in that the gods are going to be more suspicious and cautious now.]
That's wise. [They have to be careful now.] I fear things may get worse soon. The gods have their own agenda. They ought to be strong enough now to start seeing it through.
Fortunately they don't seem super talented in the social communication or emotional IQ areas, so we're probably still working with an advantage, but yeah. At this point I'd definitely like to err on the side of caution.
[Because the whole thing that had just happened had been a little too much of the exact opposite of that.]
How about uh, the people you were going to talk to? Did you have a chance?
[He totally understands if she didn't. Life is always a mess here.]
That's true. [They have to use that advantage while it can still be taken. Even a stupid enemy will eventually wise up, and while she has no love or even respect for any of them, the gods are not stupid.
Maketh shakes her head]
No, I'm sorry. Things came to a head very suddenly. But I will work on it. This is important.
No, it's... It's cool, don't worry about it. I think everyone um... Probably needs some time to recover anyway.
[He knows he's not up for anything he doesn't absolutely have to be, especially not anything that requires that much finesse, and by the look of Maketh she should probably be taking it easy too. And who knows what happened with Sam or Cashmere or those Maketh is going to ask during the whole thing; they all might need a break as well.
He glances around the guard post, toward Maketh's desk, than back at her.]
Is there um... Is there anything I can do to help?
[He imagines they have a lot of administrative-type work to do after everything that happened.]
That's kind of you. [She's reminded again of why she likes Chris. Above all he's kind. It seems to come to him easily, without trouble, and Maketh can only wonder at that.] We could use some help doing inventory, if you have the time.
[He smiles at that, having expected to be told no; he's never taken inventory of anything before but he's sure he can figure it out. Chris just really wants to do something to help, at this point.]
Yeah, I'm not doing anything. You'll uh, have to show me how you want stuff done though.
[Maketh smiles just a little.] It's not complicated. All you have to do is make a list of what we have and how much of it. And if anything is broken, make a note of that.
Paper would be fine for now. [Much as she dislikes doing things this way, Maketh doesn't trust the network. Nearly everything else has been had written, so this will do.] Again, thank you.
[Maketh pauses, considering that.] I shall keep that in mind. You've been very helpful to me in the past. I have no doubt we'll find our share of trying times.

I guess we know who some of the loose cannons are now, at least.

Paper list or one on the phones? I actually have readable handwriting, though I know that's a shock to most people.
