Hey Maketh. I hope you're doing okay after that whole thing that went down.
If you're up for it I wanted to meet up with you to talk about what we were planning before? I got a yes or no from everyone I asked.
[The whole group of people to ask the gods questions thing is what he's referring to, but he doesn't want to mention it on the network for obvious reasons.]
[Chris hasn't actually been to the guard post before, so when he eventually arrives with two oversized coffees he takes a moment to look around curiously before turning his attention to Maketh. He looks drained but offers as genuine a smile as he can manage along with the coffee.]
[Maketh stands, pushing her chair back. She's been at this desk for what feels like a long time now, writing reports or going over other paperwork that others have turned in. There's too much to do and even with Amos helping out, not enough people to get it done in a timely manner.
She rubs her eyes briefly and tries to smile, knowing that she doesn't look well. Too pale and dark circles under her eyes from lack of sleep. But that could be said of far too many people here.] Chris. That it has. You...you are all right? And the others as well?
[No one in this place is going to be winning any beauty contests around here right now, probably. He gives a quiet sigh and a shrug, tapping his fingers a few times on his mug.]
We're okay. Kind of shaken up, but...
[And then he stops, blinking a few times and wondering to himself why he's being secretive about this; there's no reason to hide it from Maketh.]
I um... My luck ran out though, I guess. It was only a matter of time with everything that happens here.
[It's quiet, sincere; she's already died once--at least? he's not sure--here, and he wishes it hadn't happened again. Especially considering this whole thing hadn't even been caused by the gods and should've been completely avoided.]
At least it's... It's all done with now. Though I don't know how; did um... Did Sharon just give up?
[This isn't what he came here to talk about, but if anyone knows it's probably Maketh and he really wants to know, for several reasons.]
[Maketh sighs. She wants to ask Chris how he died and at the same time wants to forget it ever happened.] She got frustrated. I suppose it makes sense -- she's young, and anyone with that much power...
[Chris is... Slightly sympathetic toward Sharon, because he can understand making bad decisions because of being stressed or scared or desperate. But on the other hand, it would've been one thing if she'd done something that inadvertently harmed others, and it's another entirely that she seemed to know very well the danger she was putting everyone in.
But that's one issue, and what Maketh says about others is another one.]
Kate. [They haven't yet decided what's to be done about that. Maketh drinks her coffee slowly, to savor the taste.] There was at least one more. She won't give them up.
Seriously? They still hadn't figured out how stupid the whole thing was?
[His voice pitches up a little in a sudden flare of agitation, though he isn't any louder than before. He just really can't believe they hadn't come to their senses and stopped on their own; surely it was obvious they weren't achieving anything.
[Maketh shakes her head. There are still too many details unaccounted for.] I'm not certain. I can't even be sure that it was her death that stopped things. Hope claims they've come up with a way to counter her powers, so the timing may simply be a coincidence.
[She's quiet for a moment.]
We're lucky that Kate's creation had specific targets in mind, or it might have killed everyone.
I ran into him during the whole thing, and he made it pretty clear he was still planning on going after her.
[But maybe he hadn't. And if he had Chris really does hope the timing was just coincidence, because that sort of action is the last thing that needs to be encouraged even if that would alternatively mean Sharon was killed for nothing. Not a great thing either.
This whole situation is so messed up.]
That was the... Thing that was talking on Henry's post, right? What targets?
[Chris stares down at--or through--his coffee at her answer, things fitting into place more and more even if he wishes they hadn't happened.]
Geez, I'm really sorry.
[He's said it once already but there's nothing else to say.]
None of this should've even happened.
[Everyone was supposed to be on the same team unless the gods meddled with them, and although Chris has never really liked Sharon he'd thought they could trust Kate.]
No. [Maketh thinks back to her own attempt with the explosives, that idea she'd allowed herself to have and even to develop with Hux. Of all people, she'd been willing to work with General Hux to see it through.
If Lilith hadn't---
Well.]
I think--they were trying to help. But perhaps they hurt too much to think logically about what would happen.
Yeah, I don't... I mean, I don't think they purposefully set out to hurt anyone.
[He still hasn't drank any of his coffee, tapping his fingers against his mug again.]
But they also didn't care not to. And Sharon actually told people not to hide in the Temples.
[And, considering the Temples had indeed turned out to be safe, he thinks she very purposefully chose hurting the gods over the safety of the people here.]
No. [Maketh drinks her coffee, remembering the way that Henry had---well. How he'd found her in the temple. He'd been hurting too, but he had stayed together for her.] This can't happen again. No matter how much we hurt, we can't--do this to each other.
Yes. [To her great surprise. Maketh didn't have much faith in people when she first came to Hadriel, and remembers her earlier conversations with Chris on the matter with a bit of shame.
But now they have a real problem, and no easy way to solve it.
Maketh exhales slowly.] That's true. We're lucky the gods didn't decide to retaliate this time.
[Though it's too early to say they won't do something later on, either. And who knows if Sharon and the others will try something like this again? Or someone else who has powers or just a crazy idea? Not to mention the whole issue with some people apparently being totally fine with just killing people here if they don't agree with their actions.
But okay. One thing at a time; he came here for a reason--or a few reasons, but one specifically that he mentioned--and he should probably actually get to that.]
About uh... The thing. Cashmere and Sam are in and willing to meet up with all of us at some point to figure out who's doing what. We should probably wait until after the next god's resurrect though.

The monster was meant to go after the gods. To hurt them. When it couldn't reach them, it...it decided to pursue something it could catch.
[Maketh looks away.] Henry survived. I never was much of a fighter. But I couldn't let it hurt anyone trying to get to me, so I...made a choice.
