Fortunately they don't seem super talented in the social communication or emotional IQ areas, so we're probably still working with an advantage, but yeah. At this point I'd definitely like to err on the side of caution.
[Because the whole thing that had just happened had been a little too much of the exact opposite of that.]
How about uh, the people you were going to talk to? Did you have a chance?
[He totally understands if she didn't. Life is always a mess here.]
That's true. [They have to use that advantage while it can still be taken. Even a stupid enemy will eventually wise up, and while she has no love or even respect for any of them, the gods are not stupid.
Maketh shakes her head]
No, I'm sorry. Things came to a head very suddenly. But I will work on it. This is important.
No, it's... It's cool, don't worry about it. I think everyone um... Probably needs some time to recover anyway.
[He knows he's not up for anything he doesn't absolutely have to be, especially not anything that requires that much finesse, and by the look of Maketh she should probably be taking it easy too. And who knows what happened with Sam or Cashmere or those Maketh is going to ask during the whole thing; they all might need a break as well.
He glances around the guard post, toward Maketh's desk, than back at her.]
Is there um... Is there anything I can do to help?
[He imagines they have a lot of administrative-type work to do after everything that happened.]
That's kind of you. [She's reminded again of why she likes Chris. Above all he's kind. It seems to come to him easily, without trouble, and Maketh can only wonder at that.] We could use some help doing inventory, if you have the time.
[He smiles at that, having expected to be told no; he's never taken inventory of anything before but he's sure he can figure it out. Chris just really wants to do something to help, at this point.]
Yeah, I'm not doing anything. You'll uh, have to show me how you want stuff done though.
[Maketh smiles just a little.] It's not complicated. All you have to do is make a list of what we have and how much of it. And if anything is broken, make a note of that.
Paper would be fine for now. [Much as she dislikes doing things this way, Maketh doesn't trust the network. Nearly everything else has been had written, so this will do.] Again, thank you.
[Maketh pauses, considering that.] I shall keep that in mind. You've been very helpful to me in the past. I have no doubt we'll find our share of trying times.

[That sounds simple enough.]
You want like... Everything? Including tables and chairs or whatever? Or just supplies?

[Though he should ask--]
Paper list or one on the phones? I actually have readable handwriting, though I know that's a shock to most people.
[Considering he usually does everything on computers. But he really does have decent handwriting when he uses it.]

[He's quiet for just a moment before continuing.]
I just uh... Wish I could help you all out more, I guess? I mean, I'd suck actually being in the Guard, but if there's anything I can do whenever...
[He'd be happy to try.]

I'd uh, say that I hope that's not true, but yeah probably.
[It's not like things are peaceful here for long.]
But okay, I'll get on this. One inventory list coming up.
