It feels like such an absurd thing to get butterflies over. She has no second thoughts charging into a blazing house, but when it comes to putting herself in a compromising situation before another person -- there's something terrifying about that that Rey can't place.
Her mouth tightens; a crease forms in her brow as her eyes fall ton Maketh's extended hand.
And then, without hesitation, she takes it. Curling her fingers around Maketh's own.
Maketh takes a sip from her glass, thoughtful. "I think with you, I can come close."
She sets her glass down, careful as she can, and presses her thumb against Rey's palm. The weight of their rings is still unfamiliar, but Maketh finds she likes the weight. The feel of it on her hand.
In many ways, Rey knows what Maketh means. Why that is doesn't register very clearly in her dreamlike state, but she knows. There are people in her life who make her want to be worth loving, terrifying as the prospect is. The fear and dread becomes easily stifled by the anticipation of a future that isn't so bleak.
Now free of the glass, Rey brings her other hand to Maketh's jaw, her fingers tracing along the line. She wants to take this slow. Don't rush it. Can't screw this up.
That becomes a forgotten afterthought soon as Rey brings Maketh's mouth to her own, tasting the sweetness of the wine on her lips.
"So are you," she whispers, before kissing Maketh again.
Maketh closes her eyes with a contented hum, enjoying the feeling. The way Rey kisses her, attentive and careful. How Rey's hand feels against her cheek. The roughness of her palm.
It's not familiar. Not yet. But it will be.
They've kissed before. Held hands at the altar. Little else. But there's time to learn, and Maketh doesn't mind the process. Learning how a partner moves against her. How best to move with them in turn.
The gentle sensation from Maketh's hum through their kiss makes the skin on Rey's neck tingle and her heart skip. She leans forward, stroking the other woman's cheek with a coarse and calloused hand, sliding her touch through hair and scalp. Her blond threads are so pretty when they're down. Soft. Nice. This is good.
Guided through instincts, she's following what Maketh's movements and vocal indicators tell her. So far, Rey has yet to find herself in doubting.
Just like that, Maketh thinks, tipping her head back. It's slower than she's used to, but Maketh finds she doesn't mind. Rey is careful and deliberate, her hands steady. She can taste the honey mead when they kiss.
Her own breath catches in her throat when Maketh speaks up. When she touches her hand. She loves the feeling of Maketh near her, this close, more so than she ever felt anything. It's strange, how she can't recall a time ever feeling this way with Marcus. Kind as he was, maybe there was something in her heart that was trying to tell her what she already knew.
She smiles back, her visage bearing fondness for the woman in her arms.
"Perfect," she says, tentatively, and then-- "If... If I do something you don't like, or just weird, you'll tell me?"
The last thing Rey wants is to ruin their first time together like this, or make Maketh unhappy or uncomfortable.
"I will," Maketh promises her softly. It's been a while since she's done this sober, but there's a reverence in the way that Rey looks at her. Maketh thinks she could like that.
She leans back a little, reaching up to unhook the clasp of her dress. Lets it slip off her shoulders.
Much as Rey feels like multiple shots and several glasses of more wine ought to do the trick, she wants to be cognizant. She doesn't want this to be a forgotten night of drunken fumbling.
The clasp simply comes undone, the top sliding on its own. She shrugs it off, allowing the garment to loosen before Rey slides a hand to Maketh's back, returning the gesture all the same, and with a kiss.
"Would 'preciate it," she murmurs between their lips, a curl on the edge of her mouth. "Wife."
It just sounds so nice. More than she ever thought she would have...
Maketh rolls her shoulders, leaning in for another kiss. She likes that title. It's not one that she's fought for, exactly, but it did involve speaking up. Being true to herself - true to them - at a crucial moment. Rey's hand is warm and solid at her back, an anchor.
Beautiful.
"Good," she murmurs, letting the dress slip off her shoulders. Underneath she still has the strapless bra, but that will come off soon enough. She has a feeling. "May I--?"
It would seem like such a silly thing to ask, but Rey knows why. She appreciates Maketh being patient with her. Taking it steady while they figure each other out.
The kiss is sweet. Pleasant and addictive. Prickles climb all the way up and down her spine and she shudders as her skin is exposed to the air of the room. It's only a little cool, but in a nice way.
She cants her head slightly, with a somewhat sheepish look.
Maketh just smiles. It's slower than she's used to, but that's all right. They have time. "Good."
Calmly, she unhooks her bra. Drops it. Then she leans forward to press against Rey, just holding her a moment. Skin against skin. It's warm. Comforting, in some ways.
They're together now, closer than before with clothes between them. She shifts then, moving to throw down what's left of her dress onto the floor.
When it comes to being exposed and seen by others in her undergarments, Rey isn't a modest one by any means. She's used to it. But never has it been anything like this. Pressed up to another body. Warm. Loved. The heat radiating off Maketh's soft skin. Rey feels as though she might burst with emotion and content.
"Good," Rey echoes in a whisper. She nuzzles the side of Maketh's throat, before bringing her kisses to the other woman's neck.
Ah, that's nice. Maketh tips her head back, humming. She closes her eyes a moment, enjoying the closeness. The warmth. The brush of Rey's mouth against her pulse.
Wonderful, she thinks.
Gently, she takes one of Rey's hands, squeezing briefly. Such strong hands and yet they hold her so carefully....
Judging by the response, Rey has a feeling that she's on the right track. Inexperience does not at all equate to ignorance, as she has some idea what to do. Where certain erogenous zones can be found. Her fingers entwine and softly tighten between Maketh's as she takes in her tender flesh.
"Yes," Rey exhales, lips pressed to skin, kisses finding their way to Maketh's ear. The corner of her mouth curls into a grin. "Tell me what my wife likes."
Everyone has their preferences, she knows. Rey just wants to please her. Make her wife happy.
Besides, two can play at that game. Hers just comes in the form of soft nips against the side of Maketh's ear. She has the mind not to make it a painful sensation -- not unless that happens to be her thing. Rey never knew, herself. Right now, she's testing the waters. Trying to find what works for both of them.
"I'll see what I can do." She slips from Maketh's hand for a moment, bringing her touch to the other woman's chin so that Rey could look her lover in the eye for a moment. "Have I told you enough times how fucking beautiful you are?"
As eloquent as one can always expect from Rey, awake or dreaming.
Maketh's eyes are bright and watchful, shining like her grin. She tips her head back, shivering at the touch. The feel of teeth against her ear. And oh, she likes that. "Hmm. I could stand to hear it again."
She curls her hand around Rey's hip, pressing her fingers in.
From body language to vocal cues, Rey allows herself to remember and take note for future reference. She beams, satisfied with her work so far.
"You're beautiful," she tells Maketh again, both sincerity and fondness in her tone when she says this. "I'll be sure to remind you every day, so you never forget."
What Maketh says next does help, though. Both assured by her words and gesture, the feeling at Rey's side, a playful glint flickers across her expression.
Shortly after being prompted, Rey leans forward for another kiss. This time teething Maketh's lower lip after. Not enough to pinch or draw blood, mind. Just a little something.
If the words were empty, Maketh would have laughed them off. Flattery is acceptable in small doses, even if it isn't meant, just for the ego boost. But it's different when Rey does it - she means each word and choses them carefully - and Maketh shivers into the kiss. Feels teeth worrying into her lip. You're beautiful. They're not empty words. I'll be sure to remind you every day.
Rey is an excellent marksman. She hits what she means to.
Maketh puts her hands on Rey's face and kisses her back hard.
If Rey were sucking up in any way, she would have been more remiss to share such meaningful words with anyone. But they're not hollow with Maketh. She does mean them, and something tells her that she has made no mystery of this.
The kiss alone is enough to tell her that. Rey would have gasped if Maketh hadn't then taken her breath away, as she returns the kiss with as much fervor as she is met with.
If this proves anything, it's that they're on the same wavelength with what they want...
With an arm propping her upright, Rey slides her other down Maketh's neck, her shoulder. Cupping her chest as she presses herself against the other woman. Exploring skin. The feeling of hers under her own rough palms. Soft and warm. A sensation she doesn't get between clothes.
Oh, that's nice. Maketh tips her head back, chasing the feeling. The strength of Rey's hands. No hesitation now. She runs a hand through Rey's hair, tugging just enough to feel. The other she puts firmly on Rey's breast. "Better."

She watches Rey, then offers out her hand.
"Do you want to?"
There's no need to ask what this refers to.

She tips her head to the side. Gives Rey a little smile.
"When you're ready, kiss me again."

"Thank you," Rey exhales. She means it, and it means everything.
After finishing off her wine in one go, she sets the glass down over the end table, not letting go of Maketh.
Looking at her from the corner of her eye, Rey's expression softens again. "You really are so wonderful, you know that?"

It's just a little teasing.
