[He thinks about that for a long moment- in truth, he has a very limited idea of morality. Rome has never really been taught right and wrong, he's been taught obedience. Maketh being free to choose her own path is alien to him and so he lacks the ability to even remotely fault her for her decisions.]
You chose order.
[Is how he sees it- not as a gruesome thing that needed to be done in the name of self-preservation, but because the alternative is chaos, which is something that he's ill-equipped to understand, let alone adapt to.]
[As she suspects many of her fellow officers did. It doesn't matter here. What's done is done. But a few people seem to understand. Rome is among them.
She appreciates that.]
Knowing what I do now, I--I like to think I would have been stronger. But I already made my choices. The only thing that matters is what I do right here. And I intend to do right by these people.
[He muses- not really the kind of person for reassurance or empty platitudes. Rome glances down at his hands for a moment, before lifting his gaze back up toward her with a small nod.]
You have my assistance. I'll do anything you ask- be it on record or not.
[It's a dangerous thing that he's giving her, and he's doing it freely, without hesitation, within a month of joining her group. It could be considered rushing, but Rome has been bred and raised to desire direction and authority. He's a tool- a sentient one, but an instrument of another's will all the same. He's fine with it.
Better Maketh than someone less responsible, anyway.]
[Rome doesn't sugarcoat things or think to gentle the blow. Perhaps not the smartest trait for a soldier to cultivate, but it's one that Maketh has come to respect. She prefers to see things exactly as they are. It hurts less in the end.
And here he is, offering his loyalty.
Maketh watches him for a long moment.]
There's a man here named Sato. He's attacked the Guard before. Made a spectacle of it. He's going to try it again sometime. I want you to keep an eye on him.
[He listens to her request, brows furrowing a little when she tells him of the final part, the fact that this man apparently is immortal. It sounds like an unpleasant type of person to go up against- how do you defend yourself against someone who can't die?- but if that's the situation that they're in then he'll need to adapt.
Romulus nods once, solemn.]
I can monitor him discretely, [he promises, filing away the information for further use. He's had training for observation, tracking, that sort of thing, so it should be achievable.
He'd hate to disappoint.]
Am I under the assumption that I am not to engage him for any purpose? If he targets someone else, monitoring his tactics could prove useful- though I could intervene if you'd prefer it.
[And he'll do his best- Rome is capable at covert work and he can handle his own if worst comes to worst- though, hopefully it won't come to that. He doesn't want to disappoint his new commanding officer, after all.]

I would have done the same.

[She tips her head to the side.]
He has abilities. He doesn't die properly.

[Maketh leans back in her chair.]
I'm hoping you might sense something about his abilities that we cannot. Failing that, he needs to be watched. No doubt he's planning more nonsense.

Is there anything else, ma'am?

[Maketh gives him a small nod.]
Dismissed.
