[It's said lightly, and just a little teasing. Maketh practically runs on coffee. Thankfully she's gotten to the point where she can brew it quickly when needed, and get straight back to business. She returns to the table with a steaming mug, then takes her seat.] Why us, do you think?
[Henry picks up the sphere. He lightly tosses it into the air and catches it, an idle, continuous action he keeps up as he speaks on.]
Their notice of our efforts comes late enough that I do not think them privy to the conversation which birthed it. In any case, there is but one way for us to grasp their intent.
[And that is to use the gift and see what it actually bestows.
Proving that his impetuous streak is alive and well, Henry holds her gaze as he abruptly crushes the the sphere in his hand on his next catch.]
I talked to the man with the silly face and he told me of the guard and that you have nothing to mark who is a part of it. He said you are their leader.
If yarn can be found, I could knit you sashes or hats so people will be able to find a guard when they need them, even if they don't know anyone. And if you don't want knitted sashes or hats, you should get some from somewhere else because it is very silly to have a guard that nobody can recognize, yes?
[Henry sounds weary; Hope's blessing may have healed all his physical wounds without a trace, but mentally he's still rough following his torture a few days ago.]
Maketh. Are you yet at headquarters? Kate shall being coming in today to explain her part in [he pauses there, and when he continues his tone is darker] recent events. I think it best if you and Nick question her.
[He does not need to say why he cannot trust himself to do so impartially.]
Nonetheless, I will be there to hear what she has to say.
[She's all business now, no emotion in her voice at all. This is a siege, perhaps the first real one of her life, and it's proven all of her training correct, if not just.]
Hey Maketh. I hope you're doing okay after that whole thing that went down.
If you're up for it I wanted to meet up with you to talk about what we were planning before? I got a yes or no from everyone I asked.
[The whole group of people to ask the gods questions thing is what he's referring to, but he doesn't want to mention it on the network for obvious reasons.]
[Chris hasn't actually been to the guard post before, so when he eventually arrives with two oversized coffees he takes a moment to look around curiously before turning his attention to Maketh. He looks drained but offers as genuine a smile as he can manage along with the coffee.]
[Maketh stands, pushing her chair back. She's been at this desk for what feels like a long time now, writing reports or going over other paperwork that others have turned in. There's too much to do and even with Amos helping out, not enough people to get it done in a timely manner.
She rubs her eyes briefly and tries to smile, knowing that she doesn't look well. Too pale and dark circles under her eyes from lack of sleep. But that could be said of far too many people here.] Chris. That it has. You...you are all right? And the others as well?
