[When the video connects, Chris is looking pretty pleased with himself. Why is clear enough a moment later when he shows the camera the back of his right hand, where Hope's blessing is shining.]

[He knows she has it herself, after all.]

[Maketh looks surprised.] Oh, I see. I'm afraid I'm not the best person to ask, as I never got to use mine.

[Oh. Oops. He looks a little sheepish, now.]

Oh, um, sorry. Is yours gone, or do you still have it?

[He doesn't know how long they last, exactly.]

It's gone, unfortunately. [It faded when she died. She never had the chance to use it.] You could ask Rey? She used hers to heal herself.

[As terrible as that is it's still, in a way, good to know. Not that he intends to die, but still.]

Yeah, um, okay. I'll ask her.

[Aaaaaand there's an awkward silence for a few seconds.]

Sorry. Again. I um... I guess I didn't think it through before I called you.

[He isn't sure if he upset her or not but he definitely didn't mean to be inconsiderate.]

[Maketh shakes her head. She's not sure what she feels about this. 'Upset' isn't the right word.] You needn't worry about that.

[Chris doesn't seem totally convinced, but he'll take her word for it for now. Still, he thinks he should probably ask--]

How um... How've you been doing?

[Since they last talked and all. Fortunately things have been quiet here, but that can be a problem itself if it means there's time to dwell on things.]

[Maketh grimaces briefly.]

The guard has been---busy.

[He's not wrong, unfortunately.]

I suppose we were lucky not to face any internal problems until now. People have been taking matters into their own hands.

[That definitely sounds not good.]

What do you mean? Is it about the um, Mello thing?

[Because that's the only thing he knows about that might have to do with the guard, and he really hopes there aren't more problems.]

Yes. [Maketh exhales slowly.] Bianca took issue with his actions.

That sounds uh... Ominous.

[And worrying, considering Bianca's involvement in the entire fog thing.]

[Maketh sounds more annoyed than anything else.]

It could have been worse, I suppose. They didn't take anyone else with them.

[He wishes that were more shocking than it actually is, because he's really not pleased with the whole thing. It's just also not surprising.]

Great. What is wrong with people here lately?

[Are people just running out of any sense they might've had to begin with?]

Things came to a head. It was...expected, I suppose.

I dunno, I'd like to think it's not totally expected for people here to decide revenge murder is the best idea.

[But although Chris is usually good about remembering that this is not his world and things don't work the same here as they did there, he still would've liked to think this is sort of an unusual, outlier occurrence. Perhaps he should keep in mind that it might not be after all.]

[It's common enough on Lothal. Maketh sighs.] When people find themselves with fewer and fewer options, they tend to seek out something they have control over. Even if it doesn't change anything, it feels--righteous. For a moment.

[He understands the general idea--the logic and psychology of it--but he still doesn't quite get how someone could actually do something like that.

But he also doesn't want to go down that road of conversation or thought, so he just shakes his head a little.]

I guess. Hopefully everyone's just... Got it out of their systems now, though.

[The last thing anyone needs is a spree of people killing each other outside of events.]

Perhaps. Doubtless the gods will fashion some new horror to distract us with. [Maketh sighs, suddenly tired.] That will help, I think. Having an enemy unites everyone.

Yeah. Only a matter of time, especially since things were so calm last month on the gods front.

[And that usually means things swing the other way pretty fast.]

Agreed. It rarely stays quiet.

[Inevitably, someone gets hungry.]

Have...have you been doing all right? You and the others?

[Chris shrugs a little, noncommittal.]

We're, you know. Hanging in there as usual.

[He's quiet a moment.]

It's kind of um... Complicated with Hannah here, but it's... It's really good to see her. And I think it's really good for Josh.

Complicated. [That's a word that comes up often.] I suppose it would be. How is Emily taking it?

She's been spending a lot of time at her sewing shop.

[And Chris can't blame her; it's even more complicated for Emily due to her role in the prank. Of course she'd need more time to get used to things.]

Hannah's taking things um, better than expected, though.
